Loquita Santa Barbara is a full-service Spanish restaurant nestled on State Street, offering an engaging dining experience that balances vibrant flavors with a lively yet inviting atmosphere. This spot suits those looking to share thoughtfully prepared dishes in a setting that feels upscale without being stuffy—whether for a family outing, a date night, or a relaxed evening with friends.

The space itself embodies a warm, bustling energy with an interior that is both stylish and approachable, complemented by a pleasant outdoor seating area recommended by locals for warmer days. The friendly, attentive service plays a key role, welcoming guests with knowledgeable menu guidance that encourages trying both classic and creative Spanish plates.

Loquita’s menu focuses sharply on authentic Spanish flavors, spotlighting a variety of tapas and paellas that showcase local and seasonal ingredients. The paella options stand out for their depth and richness—particularly the seafood and mariscos versions, known for generous portions of fresh shellfish and perfectly cooked bomba rice. Tapas like patatas bravas, wood-fired broccolini, and croquetas bring traditional tastes with a modern twist, balancing rustic textures and vibrant sauces. The octopus and carpaccio dishes are highlights praised for their delicate preparation and interesting flavor combinations.

Those who enjoy finishing a meal with something sweet will find options such as churros and Basque cheesecake that carry the same care and quality as the savory selections. The drink offerings also deserve a mention, with a small but purposeful selection of vermut flights and gin & tonics that complement the food without overwhelming it.

Loquita tends to attract locals and visitors who appreciate Spanish cuisine beyond the usual tapas bar experience—people who savor the slower moments of a shared meal and a buzzing yet comfortable dining room. Early dinners can be quieter and great for families or small groups aiming for unhurried service, while evenings grow livelier without losing the sense of connection between diners and staff.

Overall, if you’re in Santa Barbara with a craving for Spanish fare that respects tradition while playing with texture and presentation, Loquita provides a setting where the food and atmosphere support a relaxed, thoughtful evening. It’s a place where details like a fennel marmalade paired with cheese or a wood-fired romesco sauce make an impression without fussiness, inviting you into the flavors of Spain set against the upbeat rhythm of the city’s dining scene.

We went for an early dinner and had great service. Food was delicious and plentiful. The cheese plate was nice sized with an interesting fennel marmalade. We had a fabulous artichoke dish and the paella was excellent. An outstanding meal.

We loved the food at Loquita. We highly recommend you eat here if you’re in Santa Barbara. The Spanish food is just simple delicious and made to perfection. The paella is a must as well as the chuletón and the crema Catalana for dessert.

Amazing dinner experience at Loquita! We came as a family with two kids and everything exceeded our expectations. The seafood paella was outstanding — full of flavor and perfectly cooked. The beef carpaccio and pulpo were also excellent. Even the kids’ chicken tenders were surprisingly good. Service was friendly and efficient, and the atmosphere was warm and lively without being too loud. Prices are fair for Santa Barbara, and the quality definitely matches what you pay for. Highly recommend this place if you’re visiting State Street. We’ll be back next time!

Absolutely incredible. Gorgeous upscale plating, creative fascinating dishes/combinations, mind-blowing taste. Best octopus we've ever had. The goat milk custard with honey, caramelized onions, and peaches was my favorite. This place is SO pretty - delightful ambience. Eat outside!! I can't wait to go back.

Absolutely amazing. Beautiful presentation and chic decor. Friendly and prompt services. Fresh ingredients and tasty dishes. We ordered Croqueta De Seta, Carpaccio De Carne, Pulpo A La Gallegos and Mariscos Paella, all impressively delicious. What a culinary experience, definitely a highlight of our month-long US trip. Thank you Loquita Santa Barbara team!

Loquita is an absolutely amazing culinary experience. The presentation is great; the variety of tastes, flavors, and smells is well crafted in every dish. I highly recommend the paella in whatever variation strikes you as appealing. Each one has its own charms; all three variations are a complete food adventure you will not regret. Reservations a week or more in advance are highly recommended if you don't want an extended wait for a table on a Friday/weekend/holiday. A word about atmosphere: the dress code here is mostly as you are. Don't show up straight off the beach, but you'll find everything from suits and dresses to shorts and Hawaiian shirts among the patrons. This is a popular restaurant, so it will be busy and it can get a bit loud at peak dinner rush. Finally, the service team here is friendly, helpful, and prompt. All of this said, expect a fine dining price, because that is what you are getting. With desert but no alcohol, we were north of $65 per person before tip. Thank you Loquita team! We enjoyed ourselves thoroughly and we hope to be back at some point in the not-too-distant future.
